Interesting animals from the zoos and zoological gardens of the GDR The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic issues eight multi-colored special postage stamps with pictures of interesting animals from the zoos and zoological gardens of the GDR. Interesting animals from the zoos and zoological gardens of the GDR 35-pfennig value: Siberian Tiger, Zoologischer Garten Leipzig For Leipzig, the lion in the coat of arms should receive more than symbolic meaning, developed in the fair city but the most successful lion breeding in the world. Already at the founding of the zoo in Leipzig in 1878, a breeding group of this big cat moved into the predator house, which still exists today, and formed the foundation from which well over 2,000 young people have come. In addition to the lion, who repeatedly traveled to Africa, rare tigers and leopards from the famous Leipzig cat breed are in demand all over the world. The attitude and multiplication of large predators, which are threatened with extinction, represent a priority concern of the zoo in Leipzig, which fulfills important nature protection tasks also with the guidance of the international stud book for the tiger. Also from all other animal groups important for a zoological garden typical representatives are shown. Particularly worth seeing are the richly occupied aquarium and the modern terrarium. Every year more than 10,000 Leipzig students receive curriculum-related, descriptive biology lessons in a zoo school; zoos in the zoo's zoo, zoology, animal photography, drawing and modeling of animals.
