Environmental protection is a society-wide task that affects all people equally. Adults as well as teenagers and children, which brings us to the keyword: the youth. Exactly from their perspective, the multi-layered theme of environmental protection is highlighted in this special issue. The special feature of this is that the new stamp is not only very special for the youth, but also for the young - after all, the design of the brand motif should, as in the previous year with the special brand "Integration", be carried out by the children themselves. For this reason, Österreichische Post AG and the Verband Österreichischer Philatelistenvereine (VÖPh) organized a new creative competition in which children and young people of all ages were invited to grapple freely with each other in an artistic and artistic way. The result was overwhelming, but once again brought the advertised competition a very remarkable result. Hundreds of submissions of interesting artworks created by young people of all backgrounds have been submitted. From the numerous beautiful drawings, paintings and photos, which approached the subject of environmental protection in remarkably different ways, a jury of experts selected the work of Sebastian Schnöll, a pupil of 3a of the Privatgymnasium of the Sacred Heart Missionaries in Salzburg-Liefering, for the winning design. Decisive for this was, in addition to the motif idea itself, the very clear and reduced execution, which brings the theme symbolically striking to the point. As environmental protection is commonly called the totality of all measures for the protection of the environment with the aim of the preservation of the natural basis of life of all living beings with a functioning nature household. If necessary - as well as on the stamp deliberately chosen challenging phrase "Protect the environment!" - The already caused by humans impairment or damage in the best possible way to be corrected. The focus of environmental protection lies both on individual sub-areas of the environment (such as soil, water, air, climate, etc.) and on the interactions between them. What many do not know is the fact that the term "environmental protection", used only since the seventies, is a borrowing of the English term "environmental protection". The new special stamp (nominal value 0.62 € + 0,20 € assigned extra charge for the youth work of the VÖPh) tries in the end nothing more than to make a corresponding contribution in the necessary awareness raising.
