World Day of Health 1972 World Health Day In 1972, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic issued a special postage stamp. World Health Day 1972 World Health Day 1972, April 7, was marked by a message from Dr. Ing. M. G. Candau, Director-General of the Weitgesundheitsorganisation, under the motto "Your heart is your health". April 1972 was proclaimed the World Heart Month by the International Society of Cardiology and presented under the theme "Through Research on Prevention". Worldwide measures against infectious diseases are understandable to everyone. Now, there is an urgent need for international action against diseases of the heart and blood vessels, as these diseases are the leading cause of death in many countries of the world. World Health Day and World Health Month 1972 aims to boost global cooperation and the fight against cardiovascular disease. However World Health Day and World Health Month are also reasons to take stock of what has been achieved. As part of the worldwide activities for this occasion, numerous social and scientific events take place in the GDR, which were listed in an exposé of the Minister of Health of the GDR to the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO). This stamp is an expression of the GDR's efforts to support WHO's worldwide humanitarian concerns. The text "Health, performance, zest for life" is the central concern of the health policy of our socialist state. There are also traditions and successes in the field of combating cardiovascular diseases in the GDR. We do not come to the Weitgesundheitstag with empty hands. The many years of successful work of the GDR's five cardiovascular centers and the 257 county and district dispensary offices, where more than 100,000 citizens were cared for by specialist specialists in 1970, show that the GDR has successfully participated in the global effort to combat heart disease. Circulatory diseases is involved. In 1971, with the formation of the Research Association for Cardiovascular Diseases, the focus of research in this field was on key priorities, with the prevention of cardiovascular diseases being a priority concern. The fight against cardiovascular disease in the GDR is carried out according to a government plan, based on the decisions of the Politburo of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany and the State Council of the German Democratic Republic on the tasks of research and scientific organization in medicine on recommendations of the Council of Ministers and a program developed by experts on behalf of the Ministry of Health. The initiatives developed for World Health Day by the medicine of the GDR and the society once again underline the legitimate demand of the GDR to finally be accepted as an equal member of the World Health Organization. This demand is deeply in line with the humanistic concerns of WHO and is in many cases justified by the successes of the health policy of our state.
