Football World Cups, these are stages for triumphs and defeats that are being pursued by a billion-dollar audience spellbound on all continents. Every four years, FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association), the international football association founded in 1904, brings together the best national teams, a direct comparison of the best players in the world. On the occasion of the upcoming World Cup 2002 in Japan and South Korea, a particularly exciting new issue with two stamps will be released on May 2, 2002. It is a joint edition of Argentina, Brazil, Germany, France, Italy and Uruguay. As a result, all former FIFA World Cup nations, with the exception of England, participate in the edition. The graphic designer Andrea Acker from Wuppertal designed the brand, which seems almost identical in all countries. This shows a stylized football field and the flags of the World Cup nations. Andrea Acker also designed the second brand for Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and Germany. It shows a game scene with the respective national jersey of the country. The second draft of the editions of France and Italy each comes from the pen of a national artist. The 2002 Football World Cup has many different characteristics: It is the first world tournament in the new millennium, the first in Asia and the first hosted by two host countries. In total, there are 64 games in South Korea and Japan, contested by 32 teams in 20 stadiums. It is expected to attract 3.5 million visitors, 13,000 journalists and 704 players. The opening match will take place on May 31 at the newly built "World Cup Stadium" in Seoul, currently the largest stadium in Asia. Four weeks later, on June 30, the new football world champion will be crowned in Yokohama Stadium. The most successful team of all world championships so far is the Brazilian. The so-called "Selecão" was able to win the coveted cup four times with player legends such as Pélé, Zico or Sócrates. Germany and Italy follow in the world championship balance sheet with three successes each, Uruguay and Argentina with two each and England and France each with one title. In 2006, Germany invites for the second time in the history of the World Cup to a Football Festival of Nations. The recently announced twelve German cities are already looking forward to the football fans of this world as venues. It is played in Hamburg, Berlin, Hanover, Dortmund, Gelsenkirchen, Cologne, Kaiserslautern, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Munich, Nuremberg and Leipzig.
