In 1155 Duke Heinrich Jasomirgott called Irish monks, in short "Scotos" - Scots - from St. Jakob in Regensburg to Vienna. The buildings in the center of Vienna, the site of their work, are of particular architectural interest. The Romanesque collegiate church was consecrated in 1200, but the Gothic alterations were already initiated by German Benedictine monks as the Irish Fathers left the monastery in 1418. Shortly after 1700 began a large-scale expansion of the monastery, which fell victim to almost all the old buildings. Another from 1826 to 1832 carried out conversion of Joseph Kornhäusl gave the building complex of the Schottenstiftes its present classicist appearance.
