The abbey Mariastern-Gwiggen is located on a hill at the foothills of the pledge massif ten kilometers north of Bregenz. The glass painting on the stamp depicts St. Benedict of Nursia, the monk's father of the West, according to the rules of Benedictines and Cistercians. The former castle building of Gwiggen with Loretto Chapel dates back to the 16th and 17th centuries. Numerous additions were necessary due to the growth of the monastery family. The Cistercian women of Mariastern emphasize the contemplative orientation in their way of life. In the direct apostolate the sisters invite to encounter and prayer, retreat and retreats, meditation and religious conversation. In 1962, in continuation of an old tradition, the resumption of pilgrimages to the monastery church began.
