The founding of the Benedictine abbey of St. Georgenberg-Fiecht can be traced back to the first half of the 10th century. A number of foundations created a solid economic base for the monastic community in the 11th and 12th centuries. Originally the monastery was located on a 930 m high rock cone in the Karwendel. Due to the exposed location, the monastery was repeatedly exposed to natural disasters - especially large forest fires. In 1705, the abbey was so devastated by a devastating fire that it could not be rebuilt. In Fiecht, in the municipality of Vomp, the Benedictines found their new location, so to speak, the "valley station" of their work. Their place of origin St. Georgenberg-Fiecht they did not expire. Today it is the destination of numerous pilgrims, who mainly participate in night-time rides from May to October.
