The Alpine World Ski Championships 2001 in St. Anton am Arlberg marked two things: once the centenary of probably the most famous ski club in the world, the ski club Arlberg and thus the founder of the alpine race, and secondly the start of racing and its birthplace in a new Century. Ski-Trippers founded the Skiclub Arlberg on January 3, 1901 in the St. Christoph hospice. The international importance of the club probably begins in 1928 with the first Arlberg Kandahar race. The idea was born one year earlier by the legendary member Hannes Schneider together with the British Sir Arnold Lunn. The Skiclub Arlberg has produced many great racers and racers. Two of them have achieved eternal fame: Hannes Schneider and Karl Schranz. Their names are associated with the Arlberg and St. Anton forever. The issue of the stamp not only promotes and documents the significance of the World Cup and the venue but also continues a philatelic "ski tradition".
