The hosting of the last Nordic World Ski Championships in this millennium means for Ramsau - at the foot of the Dachstein - the culmination of years of efforts and developments in the field of Nordic sports. Ramsau, the largest tourist resort of Styria with 2 700 inhabitants and about 6 500 guest beds, has a lot to offer in summer and winter. By emphasizing the synergies of "sport, nature and culture" at the Nordic Ski World Championships in Ramsau, the organizers hope to have developed a concept that can serve as a role model for major sporting events of this kind in the new millennium. The motto of the Nordic World Ski Championships 1999 is: "A green World Cup in balance between sport - nature - culture". Thus, the construction of a W-120 large ski jump was deliberately omitted, since in 45 km away Bischofshofen already one is - and this was "leased" for the Ramsauer World Cup. But you do not just want to do a green World Cup, but also a "World Cup of short distances". Since the World Cup facilities are located right in the center of the village and the individual competitions take place in the immediate vicinity, there will be a "World Championship village of pedestrians" for the first time! This World Cup should set new standards and show new ways in which major winter sports events can be held in harmony with the environment in the future. In order to live up to the motto of the Nordic SKI World Championship 99 (Sport - Nature - Culture) and to emphasize not only the sporting events but also the cultural and social aspects, a comprehensive and, above all, varied supporting program is offered. For this special occasion, the POST UND TELEKOM AUSTRIA issues this commemorative stamp worth S 7, - (the motif was designed by Christian Attersee).
