On behalf of the Austrian Federal President and the Federal Government, the Ski Flying World Championships '96 was designed as a sporting contribution to the 1000th anniversary celebrations in Austria. The issue of a special postage stamp with a motif by Peter Florian underlines the importance of this World Cup. The venue will be two internationally renowned ski and cross-country skiing regions in the Styrian Salzkammergut: Tauplitz and Bad Mitterndorf. Nestled between both places and against the backdrop of the mighty Grimming, one of the highest free-standing massifs in Europe, lies the ski flying hill, which is the only one of the six flying hills that has no artificial start. It will be specially adapted for the World Cup, focusing on the safety of the athletes. The conversion works also favor excellent performance. So many jumps beyond the K-point (K = 185 m) are expected. The supporting program is also spectacular when top groups from the German-speaking music scene turn this World Cup into a sound experience.
