Already in the Middle Ages sledges were used as a means of transport and winter fun for the children in the mountain farms. In order to learn to handle the heavy horn or Bockschlitten, with which hay and wood was brought from the mountains into the valley, the playful getting to know the sled driving technique at a young age was very important. Tobogganing developed at the end of the 19th century, when a large number of winter sports clubs in Austria came into being, and as a result the "Nordic Games" in Mürzzuschlag, which took place in 1906, made this place Europe's sledging center. In Bad Goisern, on the grounds of the dry-tarmac railway of 1910, the 8th World Natural Track Luge World Championship was held in the winter of 1992.
