From March 18 to 29, 1967, the Ice Hockey World Championship took place for the first time in Vienna. The hosting of the World and European Championships in Vienna has met with a positive response throughout the world. 23 nations have reported their teams for the Vienna title fights. This record participation made the 1967 Vienna World Cup the biggest ever. For the first time, three complete game groups have measured their powers, none of the "hockey grand powers" was missing. The games were played in the Wiener Stadthalle and in the newly created ice rink in the Donaupark. The Wiener Stadthalle has a maximum capacity of 13,000 people playing ice hockey games. In the new ice rink in the Donaupark found 4000 spectators. The construction of this second ice rink was one of the prerequisites for the Ice Hockey World and European Championships in Vienna. For the conversion, which financed the municipality Vienna, made the federation a subsidy.
