For the second time in 1988 Austria took over the hosting of the World Winter Games for disabled people. These took place from 17 to 24 January 1988 again in Innsbruck, where they had been carried out in 1984. In the interim, with the "International Coordinating Committee for Disabled Sports" (ICC) had formed an umbrella organization, which summarized all previous disability sports associations, the organization of the "Winter Para-Olympics '88" has been greatly simplified. The financing of the games was secured by contributions from the Republic of Austria, the State of Tyrol, the City of Innsbruck and the Austrian Sport Associations, as well as the publication of a special stamp with mark-up, advertising revenues and sponsors. The timing of the IV World Disabled World Winter Games was chosen to coincide with the closing ceremony three weeks before the start of the Calgary Winter Olympics.
