West Styrian winegrowing area The West Styria, also known as "Schilcherheimat" is with 500 hectares of vineyards, which are operated by about 450 winegrowers, the smallest and most special of the Styrian wine growing areas. The districts Graz-Umgebung, Voitsberg and Deutschlandsberg belong to the western Styrian wine region. Well-known wine places are St. Stefan Be Stainz, Stainz, Bad Gams, Deutschlandsberg, Wildbach, Groß St. Florian and Eibiswald. The Schilcher Wine Route also leads through this wine region. Blue WildbachertraubenThe trademark of Weststeiermark is the particularly fresh - fruity Schilcher, it represents with 80% of the entire wine growing area in western Styria, the largest and economically important factor of the region. The acidified wine shines in different red levels of pink to ruby and onion peel. He is also gladly refined as a storm, sparkling wine, but also as an interesting red wine after an acidity reduction. The blue Wildbacher grapes, from which the Schilcher is extracted, find ideal conditions on the crystalline pristine and slate soils of western Styria. The vineyards are located in frost-resistant locations between 400m and 600m above sea level.
