Claus Schenk Count von Stauffenberg (1907-1944) was the man of action in German resistance to National Socialism. On July 20, 1944, he detonated a bomb in Adolf Hitler's East Prussian headquarters, Wolfschanze. The dictator survived and blew up the coup attempt. Stauffenberg was shot dead in Berlin on the night of July 21, 1944. Helmuth James Count von Moltke (1907-1945) was the man of the spirit in the resistance against Hitler. On his Silesian estate Kreisau he designed the vision of a political-moral rebuilding of Germany from the rubble of war. Moltke was arrested in early 1944 and hanged on January 23, 1945 in Berlin-Plötzensee.
