Already before 1959 - the founding year of the Kuratorium für Verkehrssicherheit - there was an educational work for children in traffic. However, as it soon became clear that well-meant but inconsistent traffic education has little meaning, the Kuratorium für Verkehrssicherheit in Mariazell founded a special teacher training college. The next step in the process of protecting the child should be traffic education as a graded subject. In time, however, it was recognized that a compulsory subject would meet with little love for the students and decided to use the method of traffic education as a legally binding syllabus. All subjects, whether mathematics or drawing, should incorporate traffic education in the classroom. The special postmark issued by Swiss Post wants to point out that, despite serious school traffic education, around 200 children die every year in road traffic and around 7,000 are sometimes seriously injured. And only through the intensive support of parents, guardians and all road users can children in road traffic be protected against accidents.
