The attempt with the special stamp "Rothenburg ob der Tauber" and successful attempt to issue a special postage stamp series with tourist places will be continued with Oberammergau. Oberammergau, Passionsspielort and wood carver village in the Bavarian mountains, is a household name. Since the year 1634, in the fulfillment of a pledge given in plague, the entire congregation performs a game of the suffering and dying of Christ in every full year of ten. Since the year of its formation for the 36th time Oberammergau goes in the summer of 1970 to redeem its oath. In 1960, a special stamp was issued on the occasion of these historical performances. The term Oberammergau is not exhausted with the names Passionsspielort and Schnitzerdorf. The neat and well-kept village on the Ammer is also one of the oldest summer resorts and winter sports resorts in the Bavarian Alps.
