The Bremen Böttcherstraße is also a tourist attraction and a popular shopping mile. The city of Bremen owes it to merchant Ludwig Roselius, who transformed the modest paternal company into the global company HAG with the invention of decaffeinated coffee. From 1902 Roselius renovated the entire Böttcherstraße. In 1926, for example, he had the HAG building built, which was set up as a tasting room for coffee. In the same year, work began on the Paula-Becker-Modersohn-Haus, which today forms the art center of Böttcherstraße. 1930/31 followed the house Atlantis. Today a first-class hotel, it is the most magnificent building of Böttcherstrasse. Also in 1931 Roselius built the Robinson Crusoe House in honor of Daniel Defoe. In 1944 the street was completely destroyed. The reconstruction work lasted until 1954.
