No special first-day cover envelope Postage Stamp Series 50 Pfennig value: Berlin - New Guard The stamp shows the Neue Wache, a 1818 built classical building Carl Friedrich Schinkel, which sets an architectural accent between the main building of the Berlin Humboldt University and the Museum of German History. Rebuilt after serious damage in World War II in 1951, the Neue Wache is today a memorial to the victims of fascism and militarism. The eternal flame burns in the spacious hall of the building. The weekly waxwork of the honor guard has become a magnet for Berliners and their domestic and foreign guests.
