"Beer is an alcoholic, carbonated beverage made from water, malted grain, yeast and hops, as well as from other ingredients that are produced by alcoholic fermentation," says the Swiss Drinks Regulation. But beer is much more than that. For many people it is the epitome of conviviality and enjoyment - and certainly it is a piece of culture. For the beginnings of beer brewing can be traced back to the time around 4000 BC! For some time now, beer has taken off: The number of breweries in our country has risen steadily in recent years. There are currently over 900 active breweries. Switzerland thus has one of the world's densest concentration of breweries. In the meantime it has even become a fun pastime to brew private beer in your own home. The new special stamps celebrate the craft of brewing as a cultural asset. On the other hand, they are certainly not an invitation to unrestrained enjoyment!
