ARA stands for Altstoff-Recycling-Austria AG and is a waste management company. On the basis of the "Waste Management Act 1990" was the "Regulation on the prevention and recovery of packaging waste and certain remnants of goods and establishment of collection and recycling systems" (Verpack VO 1996) issued to the manufacturers, importers, packers, distributors of packaging and addressed to the final consumer. To avoid waste, separate packaging is to be used: paper / cardboard, glass, wood, metals, plastics and other materials, especially on a biological basis. For the implementation of the regulation, the company ARA was founded ten years ago by the industry, which together with its partners is to organize the collection and recycling of packaging waste throughout Austria. These partners are for the most part smaller businesses, but also larger companies and e.g. in Vienna, Municipal Department 48, a comprehensive network of regional waste disposal partners. By signing a waiver and license agreement with the ARA and notifying and paying for a packaging placed on the market, a company can exempt itself from the obligations of the regulation. ARA-licensed packaging can be delivered free of charge to the take-over points according to the listed varieties.
