The earth globe, which was used as a motif of the special postage stamp, stands in the ceremonial hall of the Austrian National Library. It has a diameter of 110 centimeters and was made in 1688 by the Venetian Minorite Father Vincenzo Coronelli. After him, the founded on June 11, 1952 Coronelli World Federation of Globusfreunde was named, which is since then under Austrian leadership. On the occasion of its 25-year existence, in 1977 it held its "V. International Symposium" from June 29 to July 3 in Vienna, Kremsmünster and Klosterneuburg. Vincenzo Coronelli was born on 16 August 1650 in Venice. At the age of 20, he went to Rome to study theology. In 1673 he received his doctorate in theology and became provincial superior of the Minorite Order in Venice. Here he studied mathematics and cosmography (world description) and in 1674 secretary of the province of Santo in Padua. In 1678 he built in Parma for the Duke Ramocio Farnese for the first time two globuses, which are now missing, an activity that he exercised until 1699. In 1684 he founded the Accademia Cosmografica degli Argonauti, the first geographical society in the world to be located in the Frari Monastery of Venice. In 1685 Coronelli was appointed "Cosmographer of the Republic". The foundation of the Coronelli World Union of Friends of the Globe seeks to promote the interest of the widest circles in the world by taking suitable measures and, among other things, has created a world list of ancient globes.
