The today's faction building of the parliament of Thuringia originated from autumn 1936 to May 1939 as authority house for the Prussian government district. The young architect Wilhelm Pook (1905-1993) designed the monumental building in the style of classicistic models. The present plenary hall, a nine-storey administration tower and a connection building to the faction building emerged from May 1950 to October 1951 to designs by the architect Egon Hartmann (* 1919). The simple buildings were shared by the state parliament of Thuringia and parts of the state government, until they became fully available to the state parliament in 1995. Since January 2001, the state parliament has been extended, the construction is to be completed in 2003.
