After six years of construction, the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia was opened in 1988 as the first and so far only completely new parliament building of the German post-war history. Architect was Professor Fritz Eller. The state parliament stands in a former harbor basin on the edge of the city center of Duesseldorf. It lies directly on the Rhine and today forms the entrance gate to the Rheinpark Bilk. The building with its convex and concave circles, which are arranged around the centrally located plenary hall, an unusual architecture dar. The wide entrance hall is accessed from the courtyard and offers visitors through the glass facade, the whole panorama of the passing river.
