From May 30 to June 4, 2000, the Vienna International Postage Stamp Exhibition "WIPA 2000" will take place. This continues the tradition of WIPA, the Vienna International Postage Stamp Exhibition, which was established with the major stamp exhibitions "WIPA 1881", "WIPA 1933", "WIPA 1965" and "WIPA 1981". In addition, the anniversary "150 Years Austrian Stamp" is celebrated. On June 1, 1850, the first stamps were issued in Austria: By order of March 26, 1850, the prepayment of the postage was made the rule. For this stamps were issued to 1, 2, 3, 6 and 9 cruisers for the most important postage rates. This anniversary will be referred to on the special postage stamp "WIEN LÄDT WIPA 2000" by presenting a value of the first issue. The basic idea of the special postage stamp series "VIENNA TO WIPA 2000" is to present characteristic stamps from different epochs of the last 150 years and to juxtapose these stamps with typical mail carriers of that time. For the second half of the last century a postal cyclist was selected. POST & TELEKOM AUSTRIA honors the "WIPA 2000" by publishing a total of four special postage stamps, which appear in the years 1997 to 2000. The edition 1997, which is published as a miniature sheet, shows as a brand image a postman with bicycle and a 9 Kreuzer postal stamp blue from the year 1850 in the original printing process.
