Roger Federer, born August 8, 1981, grew up as the son of a Swiss and a South African in Riehen and Münchenstein, suburbs of Basel. According to Federer, the origin of his mother is also due to the English pronunciation of his first name, which does not correspond to the French pronunciation which is otherwise customary in Switzerland. At the tender age of three he started playing tennis and at the age of eight he joined the first major club - ironically the "TC Old Boys". Here, his development was significantly driven by committed coaches. After hesitant successes, the young athlete only grew over the years to an absolute "matchplayer", whose overall playing characteristics improved rapidly. Today, although his career is far from over, Roger Federer can already look back on an unprecedented sporting career. So he won the record number of 15 Grand Slam tournaments in singles - and since 2004 leads the Swiss (with few interruptions) almost always the tennis world rankings. In addition, Federer is the only player who has won three Grand Slam titles in a season three times in his career. As the second player (alongside the legendary Björn Borg), he managed the feat of winning the famous tennis tournament at Wimbledon five times in a row - and he's the only one who has won the "US Open" five times in a row. Due to his outstanding achievements, Federer was voted World Sportsman of the Year in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008. Already at active times it is counted by almost all experts as the best tennis players in the history of this sport and often even referred to as the greatest player of all time. No doubt: Roger Federer is considered the most versatile athlete in today's professional tennis. In the basic system, it belongs to the type that essentially operates from the baseline of the course. Although he has been working on his net game in recent years, he still scores the majority of his point winnings with balls from the baseline. The most spectacular and successful hit is his forehand, which has been described by the prestigious "Tennis Magazine" as the best in the history of the sport. However, Federer's social commitment is also impressive; In December 2003, the popular athlete founded a foundation that financially supports aid projects for children in South Africa. In addition, he was also involved in the tsunami relief organization after the disaster in December 2004 and played a series of charity tournaments to support those affected. In April 2006, Roger Federer became the first Swiss UNICEF ambassador.
