The Austrian Post and Telegraph Administration had until 1959 only a few sports brands such as the FIS brands (1933, 1936 and 1958) and the Olympia brands (1948 and 1952) published. The present brand is not only representative of athletics, but also all physical exercises that can be accurately measured in the competition, such as swimming, rowing or fencing. It represents symbolically all sports in which the individual performance remains the ultimate goal. Essential for the recent development of sports was the fact that since the Renaissance, the gaze of man began again to orientate itself on the ancient Greek image of mankind. Sport today is a matter for the broadest sections of the population and not, as in the past, one thing less enthusiasts or a few top representatives who only pursue chess. It fulfills essential tasks in public health and offers a welcome compensation for the occupational burdens of our modern age.
