Millions of fans around the world waited anxiously for the kick-off of the European Football Championship in Austria and Switzerland. The tournament with the 16 best teams in Europe was opened on 7 June in the Basel St. Jakob Park and ended with the victory of the Spanish team against the German national team on June 29 in the Vienna Ernst Happel Stadium. UEFA EURO 2008 - the official title of the tournament - was the second European Championship to be co-hosted by two countries (after Belgium and the Netherlands in 2000).
