The German Sports Aid Foundation Otto-Fleck-Schneise 12 in Frankfurt was founded on May 26, 1967. In favor of this foundation, the Deutsche Bundespost is issuing a supplementary stamp series. Handball is a fighting game between two teams. The ball must be played in the opponent's goal; Attacks by the opposing team on their own goal are to ward off. The rules of the game are overseen by two referees. Among other things, they forbid touching the ball with the feet or lower legs and attacking an opponent. Only the attack on the ball is allowed. Only outside the throwing circle, 6 m in front of goal, the ball can be played or thrown on goal. Handball is played by men and women, adolescents, students. School beginners play mini-handball. Handball is considered a German game, as it was created as a field handball in Germany in 1920. The younger sport of indoor handball has almost supplanted field handball and has found international popularity as an Olympic sport. In indoor handball, a team consists of twelve players, of which a maximum of seven (six outfield players, one goalkeeper) may be on the pitch, the others being substitutes who may be re-deployed. The playing time is 2 x 30 minutes. The playing field is 38 to 44 m long and 18 to 22 m wide. The gate is 2 m high and 3 m wide. In the Federal Republic of Germany a total of 590,000 players play handball. The national team of the Federal Republic of Germany is currently handball world champion. The next World Cup will be held in 1982 in the Federal Republic of Germany.
