On May 26, 1967, the foundation Deutsche Sporthilfe, Otto Fleck-Schneise 12 was founded in Frankfurt. In favor of this foundation, the Deutsche Bundespost is issuing a supplementary stamp series. The issue days of the special stamps are the 12th of January and the 13th of April 1978. The alpine skiing, which developed from English sport-conception and wintry alpinism, had to put up with it for a long time, of the ski federations as secondary next to the nordic ski disciplines to be viewed. Only since 1936 are the alpine competitions in the Olympic program. From the original Alpine combination of downhill skiing and slalom, special disciplines have developed, to which the giant slalom was added in 1950. Downhill skiing is a speed test, slalom is a skill competition, and in the Giant Slalom it's important to find the right balance between high speed and relatively tight turns.
