With the motif "Fischen", Austrian Post honors a sport that has become increasingly popular in recent years, especially in Austria. Archaeological finds prove that fishing goes back to prehistoric times, almost 5000 years. Which becomes all the clearer when one considers that in the early days man only knew three "occupations": hunters, fishermen and collectors. But in all religions the fish plays a big role, which in turn found expression in the mythologies and art representations of all peoples. At all times, fishing was regulated by regulation and law. So not only was it determined who was allowed to fish when and where, but also the sale of the fish was strictly guarded. Today there is a guild of fish farmers in Austria, which has set itself the task to pass on the extensive knowledge of the fish science, the so-called ichthyology, to apprentices. The different fishing methods depend on the fish in flowing or stagnant water. In Austria, for example, basic fishing, spin fishing, trolling, fly fishing and fishing with the artificial fly are carried out. The fishing gear and fishing gear are almost indescribable, but even they do not help a fisherman if he does not quickly learn that patience is the supreme virtue of anglers.
