The proceeds from the special postage stamps »For Sport« will benefit the Deutsche Sporthilfe Foundation and thus support the social interests and tasks of the Foundation in all areas of sport. The motifs of this year's sports brands are dedicated to hosting the 2006 FIFA World Cup in the Federal Republic of Germany. Individual moments of the game are presented in an exciting way ("goal shot", "cheers", "youth football", "header" and "young and old"). The green background symbolizes the lawn. The white lines loosen the design illustratively. The margin shows the official tournament emblem and the message that Germany uses to promote the World Cup: »The world as a guest of friends.« The success of a national team is always a motivation and an incentive for the youth. Unforgettable is the enthusiastic reception of the German team of more than 30,000 fans on 1 July 2002 on the Frankfurt Römerberg. The national football euphoria strengthens the talent promotion program of the German Football Association (DFB). Football-enthusiastic boys and girls aged between ten and 17 are trained in 390 bases, which are distributed across the entire country. Every year about 22,000 young people benefit from this special support. Around 1,200 trained trainers take care of them. »With the talent promotion program, the DFB wants to provide talented players with a high-quality training as well as trained trainers early to sift and train,« said national coach and DFB youth coordinator Michael Skibbe to promote talent in football. The DFB has hosted two major international tournaments twice: at the 1974 FIFA World Cup and the 1988 European Championship. Teams from 32 countries play in twelve stadiums: Berlin, Dortmund, Gelsenkirchen, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Hannover, Kaiserslautern, Cologne, Leipzig, Munich, Nuremberg and Stuttgart. More than three million visitors to the stadium are expected - including one million from abroad.
