The proceeds from the sale of the special stamp series »For Sport« will benefit the Stiftung Deutsche Sporthilfe and thus support the social interests and tasks of the foundation in all areas of sport. This year's sports brands are dedicated to »racing«. The term »cycling racing« combines a multitude of disciplines. This is how to distinguish rail, road, cross-country and off-road cycling. For these areas, the competition bikes are different, but aerodynamically designed in all parts, particularly light and adapted to the body dimensions of the driver as optimally as possible. Road bikes weigh about eight to ten kilograms, have independently functioning rim brakes and a gear shift with 18 translations. Track bikes, however, weigh only about five to six kilograms, usually have shorter frames and are built without circuit and brakes. The driver contributes to the wind slipperiness of the unit "athlete machine" through his attitude and special clothing in the form of tight, smooth racing suits and aerodynamic helmets.
