Solidarity with the Chilean people In support of solidarity with the Chilean people, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic has issued two multicolored special postage stamps with a supplement. The sums collected will be given to the Solidarity Committee of the GDR. Solidarity with the Chilean people The publication of these special postage stamps is a contribution to the solidarity of the people of the German Democratic Republic with the Chilean people, who have suffered brutal terror since the overthrow of the constitutional government and the assassination of its president Salvador Allende on 11 September 1973 the fascist military junta. On behalf of imperialism and the indigenous oligarchy of the big capitalists and Latifundists, this junta is leading a ruthless struggle against the followers of the Unidad Popular and all the democratic forces of the people. The number of murdered is now in the tens of thousands. Countless Communists, Socialists and other members of the Unidad Popular are being tortured in prisons and concentration camps hastily created by the junta. Others, who managed to escape abroad, try to build up a new existence in the asylum out of nothing. The domestic and foreign reaction seeks bloody revenge for nearly three years of independence and social progress, as practiced by the government of the Unidad Popular under the leadership of Allende. With the election of Salvador Allendes as President of Chile, the Chilean people had for the first time taken their destiny into their own hands. Allende was a real representative of this people. His election and government program was a program of eliminating dependence on foreign imperialism, a program of overcoming feudal landowning in the countryside, a program of social progress. That's why the people chose him. Salvador Allende has not disappointed this trust of his people. He remained faithful to his program and to his people until his death. Under his rule, Chilean copper was nationalized and placed at the service of its own people. In the countryside, landlordism has been rigorously expropriated and the land given over to those who have been cultivating it for centuries - farm workers and peasants. More than half of the 91 strategically important large-scale enterprises were nationalized and thus subordinated to the interests of the national economy. For foreign policy too, there was only one principle under the UP government: the interests of one's own people. The one-sided bond with the US was replaced by a policy of national dignity and sovereignty. Chile also established diplomatic relations with Cuba, the German Democratic Republic, the Democratic Republic of Vietnam and other states. With such a consistently anti-imperialist and independent policy, Chile became the second state on the Latin American continent after Cuba to boldly and self-consciously escape its guardianship of the United States. Thus, the aspirations of the peoples of this continent for national independence and social progress give new, stronger impetus. Anti-imperialist tendencies in government policy also increased in other countries. Chile became an important center of the global fight against imperialism under the rule of the Unidad Popular. More than anger at the loss of Chilean copper and its influence on Chilean politics, it was therefore the fear of the US and its allies of losing sight of Chile as a whole in Latin America - hitherto known as the "backyard of the USA" in world politics. she did not spare any means to turn back the wheel of history in Chile yet again. The fascist generals of Chile got them this dirty business. Meanwhile, the struggle of the Chilean people against their new oppressors has already awakened. From day to day the resistance grows. The Declaration of the Communist Party of Chile of October 11, 1973 shows who will speak the last word in Chile: "The struggle of the masses will reach the final victory of the people ..." For this fight the Chilean people need our solidarity. Let us support the just cause of the Chilean people, which is our cause!
