After London and Paris, the Ruhr area is the third largest conurbation in Europe with 53 cities and 5.3 million inhabitants. In 2010, the Ruhr region is entitled "European Capital of Culture". During this time, around 2,500 cultural events will take place in the Ruhr, Emscher and Lippe region as part of RUHR.2010. The program of the RUHR.2010 is dedicated to the contrasts and the people with their cultures and visions. There is a tense range between art exhibition and street art, between theater and creative industries, between opera and industrial culture. Pretty and ugly, corner bar and star kitchen, comedy and concert hall are close to each other here - many opportunities to meet new and surprising.
