Under the important criterion of dust-free road surfaces, the Austrian road network was further expanded in the years 1928-1938, leaving only a few sections of the major highways remaining. In the course of the fighting of the Second World War, the road network was dragged on long stretches by the heavy military equipment, which rolled in endless columns over the streets. The repair of these damages, so that the traffic routes met the requirements of the goods traffic and tourism again, was one of the substantial reconstruction achievements of the post-war generation. The image of the present brand leads the viewer to the Gesäusestrasse, one of the most beautiful mountain roads in the Alps. In the foreground one sees a road worker handling a pneumatic drill, while the background is dominated by the rock walls.
