The events of the war destroyed a considerable number of bridges in Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland. As an essential element of a functioning transport system, the efforts to restore all bridges destroyed in the war were particularly pronounced. Although the target had not yet been reached in 1951, the number of repaired bridges increased rapidly year on year. Above all, the importance of transport for business and tourism made this element of the tireless reconstruction efforts after the Second World War so particularly significant.
