The fish well, which is depicted on this motif, was originally part of the drinking water supply in Freiburg, which only took place via public wells. The original of the late Gothic fountain was built in 1483 by Hans von Basel and stood on the fish market. The restoration of 1970 also shows eight statues, which were built before 1616 by Bertram von Berg probably as a replacement for older and is now on the Cathedral Square. Among the statues are also knights with coats of arms of the Habsburgs and the city.
