Almost in the heart of Upper Austria, at the intersection of the most important oldest traffic routes by sea and by land, lies on a gravel tongue, dominating the country far, on the north bank of the Marienkloster on the Traun. The name Lambach is first mentioned in 798. At the end of the 10th century Count Arnold I of Wels / Lambach built a parish in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary. On 15 September 1089 Bishop Altmann of Passau consecrated the first abbey church, a three-nave Romanesque basilica. The stamp picture shows the work of an unknown artist (around 1639/40) from the Rotelbuch of the Stift Lambach.
