Protected plants The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic publishes six multicolored special postal stamps with images of protected plants. Pyrola rotundifolia L. (70 Pfennig value) The evergreen pear herbs (family Pyrolaceae) are usually unimpressive Rohhumusbewohner of deciduous, mixed and coniferous forests. Of them, the bundblättrige Birnkraut is present in the entire GDR in appropriate locations, but it occurs nowhere frequently. Most occurrences are in the Thüringischen districts, rarely it is in sand areas and in the actual mountain country. Like the related species of pear weed it is characterized by dusty seeds (0.004 nm in diameter) and by a mycorrhizal root (fungal symbiosis). The striking circular leaves distinguish this plant from the other pear herbs.
