Treasures in libraries of the GDR The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the GDR publishes four multicolored special postal stamps with the illustrations of treasures in libraries of the GDR. Special cancellations from 19 June to 18 August 1990 Treasures in libraries in the GDR The four examples selected for this series of stamps are from the holdings of the Deutsche Staatsbibliothek, Berlin. 50 Pfennig value: Nizami, Chosrou wa Shirin. Paper manuscript, Persia, 2nd half of the 18th century. Nizami (Ganjawi) was born in present-day Azerbaijan around 1141 and lived until 1209. He is one of the most important Persian poets. His epic poems were later combined into so-called chasma (fives). This includes the second epic, "Chosrou wa Shirin", written in 1180. It deals with the tragic love story between the Persian king Chosrou and the Armenian princess Shirin.The text is in a fugitive script in two columns with black, the headlines are in red ink The 65 miniatures are assigned to provincial mogul painting and may have been added in the 19th century.
