Treasures in libraries of the GDR The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the GDR publishes four multicolored special postal stamps with the illustrations of treasures in libraries of the GDR. Special cancellations from 19 June to 18 August 1990 Treasures in libraries in the GDR The four examples selected for this series of stamps are from the holdings of the Deutsche Staatsbibliothek, Berlin. 25 Pfennig value: Rudimenturn novitiorum, Lübeck, printed by Lukas Brandis, 1475 The work (in German: First Classes of the Novices) is a textbook that tells the story of the six ages from the theological point of view; It was compiled between 1470 and 1474 probably in Lübeck by a stranger from various medieval works of similar kind. The book decoration comes from an illustrator trained on Dutch originals. Lukas Brandis, the first printer of Merseburg (1473) and Lübeck (1475), was one of the most capable printers of the incunabulum era. Pictured is the second world map printed in a book.
