The "Becher Mallow" pictured on the stamp is representative of more than 1,500 mallow species worldwide. Mallow plants are available as herbs, as perennials, shrubs and in the tropics as trees. Attractive on the Bechermalve are their up to eight centimeters wide, pale pink, white or dark pink and red stripes. It blooms from July to September / October. Mallow family are also used as medicinal herbs. For example, the leaves and fresh flowers of the mallow »marshmallow« tea, which is used, inter alia, in the treatment of stomach and intestinal diseases.
