"Politics is far too serious a thing to be left to men alone." This sentence, now famous, characterizes Kate Strobel's life. On July 23, 1907, she saw the light of day in Nuremberg. At the age of 18, she became a member of the Social Democratic Party. In 1933, she became Bavarian regional chairman of the »Kinderfreunde« movement. Directly after the end of World War II Käthe Strobel but again engaged in politics, in 1946 chairwoman of the Frankish women's group of the SPD and a year later a member of the district executive committee of the Franconian Social Democrats. In 1949 Käte Strobel was elected to the German Bundestag, to which she belonged until 1972. In 1966 she was appointed Minister of Health, and three years later she was given the newly formed Federal Ministry for Youth, Family and Health. Kate Strobel died on March 26, 1996.
