Born on February 27, 1903 in Hannover, Grethe Weiser grew up in Dresden. After her marriage she moved to Berlin. There she took singing lessons and debuted in 1926 in the chorus of a "Lysistra" staging. In 1932 she got her first movie role. Grethe Weiser achieved great success in 1937 with the role of »Divine Jette«. After separating from her first husband, she married the film producer Hermann Schwerin in 1958. In the films of the Wirtschaftswunderjahre she embodied the typical Berlin woman as »heart with snout«. She received the Federal Cross of Merit in 1968 for her many years of outstanding work. On October 2, 1970, Grethe Weiser had a fatal accident in a car accident with her husband near Bad Toelz.
