A new postage stamp continuous series with representations from industry and technology replaces the postage stamp continuous series "Federal President Heinemann". The postage stamps for 5 Pfennig, 140 Pfennig and 200 Pfennig appear as further values of this series with the inscription Deutsche Bundespost (at the same time and same motives the stamps also come out with the inscription Deutsche Bundespost Berlin, three values each already on May 15, 14. August and October 15, 1975) bear the following motifs: 200 Pf: Oil rig One of the most well-known phenomenons of raw material extraction from the sea is the derrick or the oil rig. The stamp shows from the group of these huge drill carriers a so-called semi-diver. This semi-submersible is a floating drilling platform, which is characterized by particular mobility, but also by stability. The illustrated system consists of a retractable ring displacement body of 70 to 90 m diameter, which carries with four about 10 m strong vertical columns the working and living deck. The dimensions of the deck are 50 to 70 m, and the total height from bottom edge ring to the top of the derrick is about 100 m. The total weight of the unit when submerged at 30 m reaches 25,000 to 30,000 tons. By accommodating all auxiliary drives and supply units in the lower ring a favorable center of gravity is achieved. The (pre-set) services enable a drilling operation at water depths of up to 500 m and a drilling depth of about 5,000 m. For drive and dynamic positioning, the system is equipped with four engines of approximately 3,000 hp each.
