Now it contains museums and departments. Wolfsburg Castle, the north-easternmost structure of the Weser Renaissance, surrounded by mighty trees, was once a moated castle. From the Middle Ages comes the keep in the northwest. At the end of the 16th century the Renaissance building with 4 wings was built. The oldest and largest in the east is particularly rich in forms. The west wing was built in 1840. Inside, the south wing ("Ritterhaus") on the main floor houses the Antoniensaal with stucco decorations. A room of the 1st Oberstocks contains remains of a stucco of 1600, so reliefs with hunting scenes. - The Hoffmann von Fallersleben Museum (founded in 1928, now in the castle) honors the well-known poet. The Städtische Galerie Wolfsburg (founded in 1974) also collects art after 1945, German contemporary art and international printmaking. It shows works by the artist communities »The Bridge« and »The Blue Rider«. The current styles are represented by typical works. The museum has a printing workshop, which is available to the artists.
