The name of this office building goes back to its client. The Hanseatic merchant Henry Brarens Sloman had this unique business building built by Fritz Höger in the period from 1922 to 1924. Sloman gave the name of his master builder "Chilehaus" to remind of his long stay and the good business with the South American country. The result: one of the most important creations of German Expressionism. Today, the Chilehaus is listed as well as the entire Kontorhausviertel around. In addition to Hamburg's "Michel", it is another striking landmark of the port and trading center Hamburg - a monument and a practical, beautiful workplace for 1,200 people in 130 companies on 5,000 sqm of office space.
