With »Landmarks«, the Deutsche Bundespost replaces the series »Castles and Palaces«, begun in 1976/77. The new permanent series with its extraordinary representations of significant cultural and technical achievements out, but should also be an incentive to look at the objects once in the original. The reel stamps appear simultaneously and identically with the inscription "Deutsche Bundespost Berlin". Frankfurt am Main Airport is today the most important air traffic hub of the Federal Republic of Germany. It is considered a "fast" airport, which has contributed significantly to its worldwide popularity as a transfer airport. On average, almost 50,000 passengers are counted every day at Frankfurt Airport. On peak days there are 70,000 or even more. More than 40% of them are newcomers. The fully automatic baggage handling system is one of the main reasons that Frankfurt can ensure a transfer time of only 45 minutes, which is quite unprecedented for airports of this size. Around 84 international airlines serve Frankfurt Airport. It currently has 4,800 connections to 190 destinations in 90 countries on every continent. The development of recent years shows that the steady expansion of this airport - despite all regional resistance - was necessary and correct. For example, the number of aircraft movements increased by 4,8% in 1985 and by 10,8% in 1986. These track records are also reflected in the rising passenger volume and airfreight. Frankfurt Airport will therefore continue to invest heavily in the future in order to meet this demand. The airport now has about 40,700 employees jobs, and the number is constantly increasing. The employees work at the airport in around 220 different professions, which are spread over nearly 380 different businesses. Taking into account that every workplace at the airport has a multiplier effect, a total of 80,000 to 90,000 jobs in the catchment area of the airport are likely to be closely related to its development. It has become a first-rate service center and economic center of its region. Frankfurt am Main Airport is internationally and nationally recognized as a decisive location factor for the entire Rhine-Main area. With the advantages he offers in planning, sales and communication, he clearly influences the location of the economy in his catchment area. In particular, commercial enterprises based in the Rhine-Main area, but also exporters and importers who use airfreight, depend on worldwide, efficient and regular connections to the economic transport of passengers, freight and mail.
