With »Landmarks«, the Deutsche Bundespost replaces the series »Castles and Palaces«, begun in 1976/77. The new permanent series with its unusual representations of significant cultural and technical achievements out, but should also be an incentive to look at the objects once in the original. The reel stamps appear at the same time and the same motif as the inscription "Deutsche Bundespost Berlin". The Zollern II / IV mine in Dortmund-Bövinghausen was built between 1898 and 1908 as a model plant of Gelsenkirchener Bergwerks AG. Workshops, administration buildings, Lohnhalle, Waschkaue and magazine were grouped around a green »Ehrenhof« in elaborate historical form. Some of the details of the building are reminiscent of castles and churches of past centuries. The Maschinenhalle of Zollern II / IV was built in 1902/03 as a modern steel framework construction, the designer of the huge hall was Reinhold Krohn, the director of the bridge construction of the Gutehoffnungshütte in Oberhausen-Sterkrade. Bruno Möhring carefully used Art Nouveau elements in his architectural design. The main portal on the south side was decorated in a particularly high quality. The colliery Zollern II / IV was shut down in 1966. Today the mine is the headquarters of the Westfälisches Industriemuseum, which is set up by the Landschaftsverband Westfalen-Lippe. Here you can find out about the living and working conditions of miners from earlier decades »at the authentic place«.
